As I explained in my first “Saturday Shorts” post, my posts tend to be long poems or short stories, that can take a few minutes to read (or listen to). However, not all lines I write are long; I also scribble short poems during my days. These “shorts” are random thoughts, a few lines here and there that have only a moment to shine before I move on. That is, they did have only a few minutes to shine until I shared a few of them on my June 27th post. I am sharing more shorts today. The second installment focuses on the social and (currently) not-so-social side of high school.
This post is arranged in two sections: “Now,” followed by “Then” (circa mid to late 80’s). Each section begins with a popular movie from the time. The second movie, Breakfast Club, I have seen many times; and the first movie, Love, Simon, I recently watched for this post. Many things have changed since my high school experience, but what has not changed is the need for young adults to belong to a community where they feel connected, supported, and loved. Older adults need the same. 😉

Thank you for stopping by and sharing some smiles, some 2020 frustrations, and maybe some common experiences. Photo: Spending time with two of my best friends in 1986/87. Left to right: Linda, Shannon, and me. I look forward to seeing them soon. 🤞😷💗Michele
Images in “shorts” are not my own; they were created using Adobe Stock, with the exception of Adam Ant, Taco Bell (background), and football field. No paid endorsements. 😆
The good old days. Miss them. Thank you for sharing some of the most beautiful moments of your life. Loved the last pic with your buddies.

Thanks yassy. Yes, those days were fun. Looking at the current unsocial situation for high school students made me realize just how much fun we had. I wish the same for them. 😞

Thank you Sandra. I did have fun reminiscing on the good times had in the 80’s, not that I have to reach too far back in the memory vault, since I have never stopped listening to music from that time. 😂 I had not considered what a contrast then vs. now is until I completed this post this morning and looked at the bigger picture. I do hope life resumes soon for students of all ages. 🤞 Of course, some contrasts have nothing to do with COVID.

So many memories come flooding back while reading your High School “Shorts.” It seems that my entire life has been spent in high school, first as a student (1958-61), then as a teacher (1964–1971) and again (1984-2000). I LOVE high school in all its iterations. You have inspired me to write about my experiences/impressions of my life in high school. Thanks, Michelle.
