Her class rankings and Law Review positions,
if held by a man would surely impress;
she was finally hired as a clerk with
a U.S. District Judge who
begrudgingly said yes.
She walked away
from lesser pay
in the United States
to research and write in
a foreign land, then came
back even more determined.
As a professor, she became the first
woman at Columbia to earn tenure.
A satisfying and secure path, a solid career,
but she was just beginning her justice journey
where she would stand and speak up for the many
who faced gender discrimination; the cases were plenty.
Her steely mind and steadfast resolve allowed her to transcend
discrimination and ascend steps leading to the highest court in the land.

Ruth Bader Ginsburg (March 15, 1933-September 18, 2020)
Rest in Peace Notorious RBG

The last day of March marks the last day of National Women’s History Month. With so many incredible and inspiring women to highlight it was difficult to choose only a few, but I hope you have enjoyed my featured women posts this month. It is an honor to share a portion of my poem about the late honorable Ruth Bader Ginsburg. The full poem is included in my third and recently released Being a Woman poetry collection. Being a Woman illustrator, Sammi Lee, and I are thrilled to have released our third and final collection at the beginning of the women-focused month and have continued enjoying sharing news about our Forthcoming collection. Thus far, the feedback and reviews have been positive, so that is a bonus! π I will return Saturday with something that has yet to find me, but when it does, I am sure it will be inspiring. π Thank you for the visit. Be well. π Michele

She certainly was. πͺπ» Thank you for acknowledging strong and independent she-humans. Yes! ππ» RBG was a woman who made a difference. Her courage and strength remind me that petite soft-spoken persons can and should stand tall and share their voice, even during difficult situations.π I echo your respect. ππ»

What a great poetic tribute to end the month with. Her balance for justice never wavered. She was a small woman, but a tower of strength and fortitude.

I am pleased to have wrapped up my tribute month with her. Yes, her small stature was no indication of her strength. Well said! Her life is a model of overcoming adversity, resolve, determination, accomplishment, and many other leadership attributes. Thank you for joining me and for your kind words. π

A beautiful tribute to RBG. Living in the UK and not really following USA politics until say 4 years ago. I did know who she was, or that the supreme Court was a life time position. Then I researched her and she is totally amazing. Not afraid. A very strong women and very impressive person. She is a good yard stick to measure ourselves against ( not sure if anyone came close to her, but try we must).
A beautiful tribute

I don’t blame you a bit for not following US politics. I barely do. π However, some people are worth learning more about, like RBG. Although not a politician, per se, one would need to understand politics and be adaptable in that environment to survive. She was more than a survivor, as you know. Thank you so much for your articulate feedback. Enjoy your day.

Thank you for writing that. You are making me smile and my heart glow. π I am so lucky to be Sam’s mom. Watching her talent evolve over the years has been amazing and life and heart expanding. It was such a joy to work with her on these three collections. A blessing on many levels, including having that connection during the pandemic. I had no way of knowing, in late 2019 when I had the idea for the collections, that we would all be living in that mess! Brighter days ahead. π

Thank you on behalf of Sammi Lee – the illustrator of the three collections, as you probably already know. As you wrote previously, we might not be able to highlight every woman deserving of the spotlight, but we have and will continue to do our best and lift each other up too! Thank you for being here and for sharing your own uplifting messages. β€β€β€

Loving the full experience of the poem in its beautiful form; I thought first of an hourglass but, upon reflection, I perceive the shape more as a dress. It adds such depth to the words and chronicle of this woman’s life! β€

Funny thing about my structured poems. I write and structure my lines based on what I want to convey and somehow they shape themselves. It is quite amazing and fun. It does look like a dress. I love it! Thank you for noticing the details. π

I liked her. I like the tough ladies. I like the Queen of England too. Served in war. People like to forget. So many strong and great women. Eleanor Roosevelt is my favorite. She made the Army create the first black division in WW2. Hello dear Michelle.
