Her Cottage by the Sea

Curtains swaying
a soft lift and gentle dip
a peaceful rhythm
matching the rise and fall
of their replenishing breath

Hues changing
a floating canvas
a fleeting Rembrandt
filtering the pink sunrise
transforming walls inside

Senses stirring
a dream scene blurring
a mind’s eye releasing
ushering in discoveries
in joy and carefree play

Fingers typing
a mind sparking
a coffee pot brewing
eyes still closed she
feels her lover’s gaze

Skin warming
a passion igniting
a low tide revealing
what was once hidden
now brilliant and bare

Here, suspended
between sleep and awake
she will linger
just a few more minutes
inhaling the possibilities
bathing in the infinite
soaking in the ocean breeze
basking in her lover’s radiance

Her eyes opening, her body drifting in a dream
soothing curves set against the cresting sea
they find each other and stare into the deep

Waking to a new day with endless possibilities,
where wild and untamable rise and merge
with soft and sensual in her cottage by the sea

I revisited the speaker of my poem, “A Writer’s Dream,” that I wrote last fall (w/audio). The speaker had traded in her heels and her mansion for a cottage by the sea, when I last left her. She seems to be doing fine. 😉💓

Lucky! 😁 I am just the writer – they are having all the fun. 😆 The writing process is enjoyable too, I’ll admit. I am sure you agree. I appreciate your comments about the poem’s structure. Always an interesting process of discovery – starting with an idea (or two) and following the words to their destination. ✨ In this case… paradise. 🥰

  15. Oh my, I feel swept away Michele. I can actually visualize myself being by the ocean front, smelling in the salt air, and allowing myself to drift away in a peaceful state of mind.

    Your passion is intoxicating girlfriend! Sail away…reminds me of the song “Orinoco Flow” by Enya! .⛵⚓🌅

      2. Oh yeah, that is a wonderful time to hit the beach. Puerto Peñasco, Mexico is absolutely divine in October. I only mention that because it is the closest beach to me and it really is spectacular that time of year – no plans to go there this year. Other beaches, yes! Whenever and wherever it happens, will be enjoyable. 🌊🏖🥰
