Tappy Spoons and Happy Toes (video)

Sometimes I need to step away from my laptop and dance. Don’t we all? ๐Ÿ˜‰ Moving to music is good for the mind, body, and soul. ๐ŸŽถ One of the themes of the Independence Day holiday is freedom; dancing offers me that experience and feeling. I invite you to join me, the Spoon Lady (Abby), and Chris Rodrigues for a tapping slapping good time. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ ๐Ÿ•บ๐Ÿผ

Angels in Heaven – The Spoon Lady (Abby) & Chris Rodrigues

The Spoon Lady, Abby Roach, is a musician, free speech activist, and one of the few professional spoon players in America. I knew, as soon as I heard her spoon tapping in this video, that I wanted to feature her and musician Chris Rodrigues making music on a porch. ๐ŸŽถ I did not know I would be dancing with them in my overalls, but hey, life is too short to not kick off your shoes and dance like everyone is watching! ๐Ÿคฃ A couple of months ago my story, “Please le me dance again,” was published on Dr. Phoebe’s site. If you are new to my site or you missed it, check out my story and learn why I am so grateful for the gift of movement.

Thank you for visiting and hopefully dancing with me! If you are celebrating the Fourth of July this weekend, enjoy! ๐ŸŽ† Be well. ๐Ÿ’— Michele

    1. Annabel, your comment makes me smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š Thank you. A cute little old lady. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Yes! The only thing needed is music and the desire to move. Dancing delivers many benefits to the mind and body. As you know! ๐Ÿ˜ The NIA classes I do are choregraphed, and some steps take practice for newbies, but I love that the dance fusion form is accessible for everyone, even those who might have limited mobility. I truly appreciate your encouragement. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ I will keep dancing and staying young doing so! You too lovely lady. ๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿฉฐ ๐Ÿค—

      2. Love that! Thank you Annabel. ๐Ÿ’— Years ago, my daughter had a dance instructor who was at an age where most of her peers were slowing down, and yet when she taught dance, she was a vibrant teenager. She was actually my teacher for a few years too during that time. I took adult jazz from her and performed in a few community recitals. ๐Ÿ˜† Enjoyment and happiness, most definitely! Thanks again for your sweet support and kind words. ๐Ÿค— ๐Ÿ’

      3. Thank you for sharing this little story of yours, Michele! How wonderful you performed for your communities! Right now, in the professional dance field, dance has become very athletic and cruel to the body. Although this level of physical demand is necessary for the professionals to pushing through the boundaries of choreographic language, there’s absolutely no need for everyone to suffer in dance.

If we just enjoy dancing in its pure form, then the happiness comes from within makes us shine! keep moving, Michele!

      4. My pleasure, Annabel. ๐Ÿ˜ The performance part of the class added stress that I didn’t need at that point in my life, but I am happy for the memories and would probably do it again, if given the chance. A few more years and I can join a silver dancing group. ๐Ÿ˜‚ Is there dancing in the Senior Olympics? ๐Ÿฅ‡ Athletics, in general, continues to push bodies beyond existing boundaries, as is the nature of competition. I noticed, with each passing year in the HS classroom, that more student athletes were showing up with injuries. Some very serious. It was becoming commonplace. Unfortunately. ๐Ÿ˜Ÿ Yes, enjoying the flow and beauty of moving to music is my intention.๐Ÿ’“ Thank you, always, for your insightful, engaging, and encouraging discourse.๐Ÿ’๐ŸŒž

And yes, any physical activities push to extreme always cause injuries! I canโ€™t tell how many pro ballerinas I know have to retire in their mid-30โ€™s because of it and how many have had their hips replaced๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅฒ. Itโ€™s crazy!

I loved what you said.๐ŸฅฐDancing for happiness is all we need! ๐Ÿ’•๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿฅณ

    1. Thanks a million, Ingrid. ๐Ÿ˜ The freedom to just turn up music and move is such a gift, and one I will never take for granted. Even though I dance in a Zoom class at least once a week, I was hesitant to share my freestyle (haha) dance with ya’ll, but then I reminded myself that we don’t have to be perfect, polished, or professional to share positive energy. โœจ You inspire me! ๐Ÿ’–

      1. Well, I certainly was impressed. Also, I don’t plan to share any dance videos, as my ‘skills’ peaked in the 7th grade – though, in later years, I’d occasionally substitute finger-snapping in place of clapping. ๐Ÿคช You’re most welcome my friend, and, no – all good. ๐Ÿ˜‚

      2. Those were worse! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Awkward teenagers. The boys wore too much Polo Cologne and we moved like robots. ๐Ÿค– Back then youngsters had to be a certain distance apart. As someone who has chaperoned many dances, I can say with certainty, things have changed!
