A slightly stoopid poem
Walking the same road
taken when heading to my first show.
A sneaky teen, I was, but my choices were void of malicious intent.
I was just a loyal follower,
drawn to his rhythm, his lyrics, and his British accent.
Solitary confinement was my due punishment.
I am all grown up now
and I can see who I want.
I can leave when I want.
I can be who I want.
I can sing as loud as I want.
I can dance barefoot until the sun does rise,
If that’s what I want –
no explanation, no curfew, no stern looks –
no punishment.
Not much has changed,
since I came to see Mr. Goody Two Shoes
and Mr. Hutchence,
except me, of course,
and the trees that line the venue’s street –
much taller and fuller, are they.
I am neither of those things,
but like the sage trees, I have earned my rings.
The trees have weathered some seasons
and they have swayed to some tunes.
I have too.
A few familiar faces in the crowd –
a moment to connect,
share smiles, memories, and anticipation
before live beats did begin.
Ninety-nine degrees in the Valley of the Sun (much hotter in the pit)
when Slightly Stoopid stepped onto the stage at 9 P.M.
The crowd was stoopider too.
“You’re all f***ing crazy!” the sweaty MC said.
He is right. He hit the rusty nail on its warped head.
A crescendo
tearing at frayed seams –
a needed release of primal screams.
We were all a sticky hot mess
when the band dropped their last note.
Dripping with sweat, they exited stage left.
Vibrating and euphoric,
walking under leaves, turned musical sheets,
tracing my teenage steps.

That’s a wonderful poem for “Slightly Stoopid.” Great images brought to mind of the days and nights of concerts gone by. Did you mosh with the other B.O.ed bodies? I’m sure your B.O. sweetened up the mix.

Thank you, Timothy. A stoopid, but fun write. You are kind to think my sweat would sweeten the mix. You are also wrong about that assumption. 😂 As much as I wanted to run down and join the circling crowd, and let out some energy with the youngsters, I stood safely back and filmed them instead. Walking out of there, was better than being taken out on a stretcher. 🤪 I did let out some screams. We should all do that from time to time. 😁 Enjoy!

I’m not a mosh pitter, but I was at a concert with my daughter several years ago. We were on the floor right in front of the band. I didn’t think about it turning into a mosh pit, but it did. Then girls started getting up on stage and jumping into the crowd to be had walked around by the crowd. Everyone likes hand walking cute young girls. But not so nerdy young men. A nerdy looking guy got up on stage and fell into the crow expecting to be hand walked. The crowd split and he was going slam into the concrete floor. I stepped in a caught him. We both went down and it broke my glasses. Luckly my glasses were the only casualty. It only cost $400 to replace them. Even though my daughter won the tickets, it was a costly concert.

Me either. No surprise, but like your story, I did get caught up a few times in my younger years, but was able to quickly escape. 😅 Bravo to you for catching that “nerdy guy” – that could have ended with more broken than glasses. A costly night indeed! Ironic too. No such thing as a free lunch. 😞 Thanks for sharing your moshing story. 😄

The kid could have split his head open, broken his neck or both. The headliner was a grunge band they were pretty good. The warm up band was a joke. I’m not sure if their schtick was to be a homeless street band, or they were truly a down and out street band. All their instruments were broken in one way of another. The bass had one string, the guitar had three strings if I remember correctly. The drummer had a few broken drum heads and cracked cymbals. They were horrible. The crowd pretty much ignored them.

So true. Tragically, I saw that happen in Rocky Point when I was a teenager. 😭 Youngins need to let out energy, but sometimes they do not know their limits. Sounds like they should have paid you to attend… a free ticket and dinner!

Thanks for the smiles Michele. I’m glad you were able to enjoy a concert and trip down memory lane. I went to one large rock concert in my teens and that was enough. Now I prefer small crowds, soothing music, and intimate venues.

My pleasure. Thanks, Brad. Only one? 😆 Mellow music and venues are nice too, but I do enjoy high energy music and dancing, of course. I did opt out of the mosh pit, of course. Fun to watch though. I think a lot of young people need to let out pent-up energy and spinning in a circle is one way to do that. 🌀🥴 Best to you!

Delightful days in a concert haze with your poetic recollection on note, and rings more beautiful with time. 😉 I’ve enjoyed your post, Michele, as I have enjoyed your voice through previous readings offered…my question: will you sing, sometime? 😎🎶🎵

It was a delightful time, and yes, very hazy! 😂 Thank you, Phil. Be careful what you wish for. I do love to sing, however, I am not sure that needs to be forever available on the Internet. Although, we only live once, as they say. 😁 🎶

Sometimes it sounds good – depends on the song. 😆 I will never stop singing, regardless. If I don’t wow them, at least they will smile. Can you carry a tune?

I’ve heard you speak and also recite poetry, each of which sounded very pleasant. ❣️ Me, sing? I’m quite out of practice, though once had a voice which sounded moderately-well accompanying tunes from James Taylor, Jim Morrison, Stevie Wonder, Chicago and Blood, Sweat & Tears. 😆

…really, though, I suspect that if you heard me sing, your response might be: why don’t you sing by the window, and I’ll help you out. 🤪

Singing voices are music to my ears. I doubt yours is so awful to change my mind about that. Some actions might get you tossed out a window, but not singing. 😆

It truly was. A great time was had by all! It was wonderful to hear live music again and be free and barefoot on the cool grass. Cool grass under my feet. Although there was plenty of other grass in the musical space too. 😂 I suppose that is a venue change, from my teenage years. Weird! Thank you, Ingrid. Wishing you a relaxing weekend. 💖

A lovely and inspired thought, that I had not thought of. ✨ Thank you, Elle, and thank you for sharing the lines that stood out to you. There is something about visiting memorable places from our past. Usually, we do not understand the significance of visits like these, until we have had time to reflect. 💖 Have a wonderful day!

Whoaaaaa…now this was stoooooopid! 😁 And I love it!!! My goodness the crowd was going crazy huh? I was getting dizzy there for a second there, but obviously they were caught up in the moment and they went with it. 💃 🕺 Sometimes ya just gotta go where the rhythm moves ya! LOL 😂 💖 🤣
Love your lightheartedness today because you’re all “grown up!” 🎤 It truly brought a big smile to my face and made me move in my seat. Beautiful poem to set up the video by the way. ✍🏽 You have been a busy beaver haven’t you? Continue to enjoy the rest of your weekend Michele Dawlink! Of course, I don’t think I really need to tell you that. You are off to a blast of a start girlfriend! 🎇 🎶 🎆 🍾

Yes, haha, crazy stoopid and crazy hot! Thank you, Kym. So glad you love it. Those crazy kids. 😆 I cannot imagine how hard Covid would have been for me as a young adult – no concerts, no dancing in clubs. A terrible thought! It was fun to see people out having a good time.
Considering I am not a tall person, me being grown “up” makes me laugh too. 😆 Thank you for smiling with me and thank you for your high-vibrating energy. ✨ I am sure you moved in your feet too! If not to that song, than another. 💃🏼 We do our best to make the most out of each day, right? 😁 Enjoy the last few days of summer. 🌞 I imagine fall is very pretty where you are. 🥰 🤗 😘

Anywho, yes girl, Fall is right around the corner. With the way climate change has been for the past couple of years, when the peak of foliage in the mountains begins to change as we would normally expect it, it does not change at the pace we typically see and explore the crisp outdoors approaching this time of the year. Perhaps this year will prove differently. 🍂 I’m just blown away to see all of the Christmas displays in a few of the stores I’ve been into. Yikes! 🎄 So yes girlfriend, make the most out of each day. There’s too much craziness going on to try to sway our way of thinking otherwise. 😜
Have an awesome day and a FANtabulous week my dear! Always stay curious!!! 🤔🧐🤭

I do understand! 🎶 We are wired that way. 😁 It is disturbing to see environmental changes with our own eyes. A situation that is playing out across the globe. 😟
Christmas? What? I have seen a few Halloween aisles and it seems too early for that. I am not ready for either holiday! Let’s just add a little holiday to every day. 💗 It was an enjoyable day. I hope yours was too my motivating maven! 📣 🏋🏼♀️🤸🏼♀️

Michele, I couldn’t agree with you more. 😊 That’s why I celebrate my birthday for 365 days of the year. 🥳🎈🎁🎉 Daily celebrations like you mentioned are essential to avoid getting trapped into these annual holidays that take months to prepare for, and 24 hours for it to be over.
😢 I’m with you girlfriend, add a little holiday to each day! Whoohooo!!! 🤗🤩😘
You are much too kind about the motivational maven shout-out, but girlfriend, the feeling is mutual! 🥂👏🍻 Be sure to make this week Fantabulously spectacular and delightfully divine my dear! 🧚💎 ❤️😎✨🧘 Smooches 💋
