Flying Home (poem & photos)

The one slow to step
returned to the state
where she drew
her first picture
and her first breath.

I am here ready
with open arms –
the same arms that she
fell into after taking
her first step.

The one slow to step
was ready to fly away,
but in my arms,
extended from a warm hearth,
her home will forever remain.

Artist Sammi Lee and her boyfriend are in town for a few days, soaking up some warm love and golden rays. 🌞 Yesterday began with a walk along a trail and ended in downtown Phoenix that was hopping with a “First Fridays” art scene, with a dinner at grandma’s in between. I hope your New Year is off to a happy and healthy start. ✨ Be well. 💗 Michele

If you are a new reader to my blog, you may not know that my artist daughter, Sammi Lee, and I collaborated long-distance during the first year of the pandemic and created and published three poetry collections, titled Being a Woman (Overcoming, Becoming, & Forthcoming) – my words, her illustrations. 💕 A rewarding and learning experience for the two of us. To learn more about our collaborative creations, visit my Being a Woman page. To explore Sammi’s art creations, visit her Mintaka Collection. Thank you for being here!

    1. It has been a wonderful visit – catching up and enjoying some warm winter days. Thank you very much, for your supportive words and for checking out my IG page – I will reciprocate, of course. Enjoy your weekend. 🌞

    1. Awww, thank you, Annabel. You are a sweetheart. 💖 That is a lovely comment. I died my hair cherry cola color when she was a toddler, which I loved. She, on the other hand, was very upset by my change. A surprising response. 😆 Wishing you a happy and healthy week! 🤗💐

      1. Thank you. ☺️ The cherry cola color was much darker. I left home my blond self and came home darker. Too much for little Miss S to process. 🙈 It was a lovely weekend. Fun times and outings. 🙏Sending you love and best wishes for a beautiful week. 💖

      2. 😅lol, the various hair colours are too complicated for someone who have never dyed hair like me. But I do think you must look stunning in either blond or cherry cola and together with your person, you make a charming picture alway👩🏻‍🦰🤩

        Send hugs!

  1. Oh my dear sweet Michele, what a beautiful poem, but more importantly, what a wonderful ode to your relationship with Sammi…giving her the freedom to spread her wings and fly on her own. 🦅 I know you are so proud of her, as I am sure she is proud of you. 🙏🏼 What a blessed and heartwarming relationship the two of you have. I love the way you two collaborate and feed off of each other. The energy is FANtabulously explosive!!! 💥

Here’s to a fun-filled and empowering week ahead my friend!!! 🤩🌟🥳💖😘✨🤗

    1. Kym, you know how to make me smile and how to make my mom heart sing and get a little emotional too. All gifts from you. 💝 Her decision to fly was hers, and not easy for me, but I knew she was following her path. For that, I am grateful, and I know she is where her creative spirit needs to be, among lots of water and gorgeous trees. 💚 I am most grateful for your beautiful and loving comment. Thank you. 💗 Your uplifting spirit is contagious! Wishing the same for you my dancing friend! 🤗

      2. Thanks, Kym, for flooding my Monday with love and kindness, which I truly appreciate. 💗 😊 It’s always difficult to say “goodbye” to Sam and her beau, but your words add some light to my day. ✨ Sidenote: they were on the tarmac, ready to lift off last night, then the pilot had to turn around due to extreme fog in the Pac. NW. So, they had one more night in Phoenix, then flew out this morning. Their original nonstop two 1/2-hour flight turned into over 8 hours with two stops. Travel!!

      3. Well thank goodness they had a safe flight, no matter how long it took Michele. I know you were probably on pins and needles until they got back home…oh but a mother’s love! You can’t substitute that kind of strong love! 💖✨💝 Rest well my friend. Relax, so you can spread your wings for the rest of the week and fly!!! 🚀🦅✈

    1. Thank you very much, poetess Diana. It is always a treat to read your inspiring and creative work and have a visit from you. 💖🙏🏻I see more of me in my daughter as she gets older, with certain looks, but she actually favors her dad in looks and personality. Interesting how that works, isn’t? Thank you, you too. 🤗 💐
