A Quiet Progression

Never underestimate
the quiet ones–
the same trait
that hushes their tongue
is their superpower
in a world full of loud voices
clamoring to be number one.

*************

I have listened
I have agreed
I have nodded
I have conceded
I have followed
I have retreated
I have let others interrupt
I have had enough

*************

Patience may be a virtue
that can save relationships,
reputations, and lives,
but a lifetime
of patience
may keep you
waiting
for
your life.

*************

In the quiet
is where I find
comfort;
it is there where I find
me,
but there comes a time
when even the quiet ones
need
to silence the silence
with a scream.

**************

Do it!
Unleash the chorus in you.
Let the edge of the cosmos
vibrate with the essence of you.
Let the slumbering minds
rattle with the waking giant in you.
Do it!
It’s time for you
to be heard
quiet one.

I am traveling to my dancing tribe this morning. We will be dancing in the desert, celebrating music, movement, summer, and sisterhood. We will surely disturb the resting coyotes with our screams and when the temperature pushes 100 degrees, we will cool in a nearby pool. 🌵💃🏻💃🏼💃🏽💃🏾🌞

Thank you for visiting and reading. Enjoy your weekend. Be well. 💗 Michele

    1. Wonderful to read your thoughts on this one. Thank you very much, Lia. My dancing tribe is amazing and dear to my heart. I have been dancing with some of these women for over ten years – one of them 14 years! Our dance is very expressive, and the music is always gorgeous! 💖

      1. That is so cool! Wow, inspiring. Thanks so much for sharing! Really love hearing about it. I love to dance. Hope to find a regular tribe near me. Your notes are motivating! xoxo

  1. Oh quiet one, Michele my Belle, scream to your hearts content out there in the desert with your dancing tribe! 😱 I would say you are off to an adventurous day. Honey, my mother was quiet and not one to be crossed at certain times. We knew when NOT to push her limits. I have learned that when I am quiet, it’s time to leave me alone, because patience truly does have it’s limitations! LOL 😜😆😝

Have a FANtabulous holiday weekend my dancing queen! 🌞🌵💃🏼🌟💃🏽✨😎 Bask in the stillness through the desert air! 🤗

    1. My heart was content dancing with ladies in the desert. 💖 And raising my voice, yes! It is an expressive form of dance. 😁 It is more than exercise – it is bliss! My mother is not quiet! 😆 Thank you very much, Kymbelina! 🤗 Happy Sunday to you. 🌞

      1. And a beautiful and Happy Sunday to you too my dear. So glad to hear that you released, related, and renewed. It’s interesting that you felt all of these while becoming one with the desert. I suppose y’all confused the heck out of your desert creatures! LOL 🌵🐁🌞🐍🌵🐢 Cheers my friend! 🍹🥂🍸

      1. You’re welcome. I love this post. It reminds me of my own lessons in being kind, but not to the point of doing it so much that my voice or opinion gets silenced. Been a journey for sure. 💗🌻💗

  2. You write so wisely and gracefully, Michele! A poem that is more than a poem, but also a powerful sharing! I believe your background as an educator has uniquely brought in this beautiful connection between the poetic and the discerning….💗

Can’t wait to see the clips of your desert dance!🌻🌷

    1. Your words are a warm hug. Thank you so much, Annabel. Wisdom and grace – a beautiful acknowledgment. 💗 Whether it be writing, dancing, or walking through life, those are admirable qualities. I am honored that you see them in me and that you understand how my role as a long-time teacher informs and influences so much of my thinking and being. I am grateful for you. 💐 I love the idea of it, but no desert dancing clips. What happens in the desert, stays in the desert. 😁 💃🏻💃🏼💃🏽🌵

      1. Lovely to read your comments, dear Michele! They are as thoughtful and productive as reading your poetic works, taste like a cup of velvet wine 🍷!

And yes, sometimes it’s better to keep the dance to ourselves ( I wouldn’t want to share my kitchen dance clip, either😅). Have fun and be wild! 🌷

  3. Oo, what a lovely poem! I am a very patient person, but I love how this poem illustrated something I have often struggled with. This stanza in particular went straight into me: “I have listened
    I have agreed . . .
    I have retreated
    I have let others interrupt
    I have had enough.

Yes to the last line! There is so much strength and power in it that is simply resonates off the page. ❤

    1. Fantastic feedback for me. Thank you, Jaya! 💖 Patience is a wonderful trait, that others can push to the limits. One of my former students told me I needed an anger translator because I am too patient! 😂 A skit from Keegan and Kel. A brilliant idea!
