Dancing Tumbleweed (video)

Writing requires me to pull everything in
and focus on every step of the process.
Dancing allows me to release everything I’m holding in
and let my body find the steps.

I Don’t Wanna by The Call

An ironic title for a song that made me wanna share a dancey video; something I haven’t done in almost a year. This song came through my stream a few days ago and I was so overcome with emotion when hearing it that I knew I needed to not just dance; I needed to share the dance. A similar sensation to pesky lines of poetry that won’t leave us poets be! Although it has been a long time, I’ve heard this song by The Call before. This is not the song I would have chosen to welcome a return to dance shares. The song chose me.

Why share my steps?

Because I can is the short answer. For those who need more, here you go… since putting on pink tights at the age of five I’ve had a life-long love affair with dance. Dancing allows me to become the music, release emotions, stay active, connect with and entertain others, and most profoundly, do what all artistic endeavors have the ability to do… heal the participant.

I almost lost my ability to dance in the late nineties, after a serious accident crushed my L1 and fractured the right side of my pelvis in multiple places. Serious and painful. You’re lucky, you could have been paralyzed, my orthopedic doctor told me as I was about to pass out on his table. I am fortunate and since getting through that ordeal, dancing has also become an honoring of abundant gratitude for the gift of movement. My story of injury and recovery was published on a health and inspirational website two years ago. Visit here, if you’re interested in reading the full story.

Lights, camera, action!

Creating and sharing videos involves several steps, beyond those taken by my feet. I will return to this song at least one more time as I continue to work on the technical logistics and background look of a new dance space. Testing one two three, testing one two three…

Stepping forward

On June 21st, the day of the Summer Solstice (northern hemisphere), I will be offering an online dance/poetry workshop. June 21st is also my late grandmother’s birthday. Evelyn, born on a farm in Arkansas, loved to dance! My workshop will be a welcoming of the new season and an honoring of her, through movement and verse. More details will follow. If you think you might be interested email me through my contact page and watch for updates.

Thank you for joining me! Be well. 💃🏻 Michele

Happy Earth Day!

      1. No reason to apologize. Truly. I am finding many beautiful aspects with aging. A few things I could live without, like reading glasses. 😆 That’s a simple one to overcome, I know. 😌 Thank you.

  5. Oh my gosh Michele, I had no idea you had an accident that could have changed the dynamic of your life forever. But oh girlfriend, it didn’t. 💪🏼 You persevered and mercy said no! Not only do you have every reason to dance, not just because of the accident, but just to celebrate the gift of life as an anthem to LIVING. Your story is so inspiring and as you know, dancing is right up my alley. 😜 As Lee Ann Womack sang, I Hope You Dance! 💃🏼🎶🕺🏼🎵💃🏽 Never settle for the path of least resistance! 1. Yes, that accident/injury changed my bones, but it did not permanently alter my movement. Although it did alter my thinking, in a positive way. That experience taught me many lessons, including how incredible difficult being disabled long-term must be. 😔 Dancing to celebrate life… absolutely, yes! 💖 Thank you, shimmy Kymmy! Song shares between us are now tied. 😆 Wonder what tomorrow will bring? 🤔🎶😁

      2. Yes! 💃🏽🪩🩰
Well said! I believe the sober reality of almost losing mobility motivates one to not take it for granted. Exercise still takes plenty of effort and discipline, but maybe the heart is more grateful for all of it. ✨ You too, Beautiful Belladonna! 🙏
