What moves you? (blog challenge)

Now feels like the right time to present a blog challenge that has been percolating in my mind for a few weeks. First, I will share the details and the opportunity to win a prize, should you choose to participate, then I will share the inspiration for this challenge.

Blog Challenge Details:

  • Choose a physical activity that you enjoy doing then do it! (G-rated ๐Ÿ˜†)
  • Take a photo of the activity. (definitely G-rated ๐Ÿ˜‚)
  • Write a piece about the activity. (poem or prose, a few words is fine, NTE 300 words)
  • Between May 15th and May 20th post your photo and complementary writing on your blog. (pingback to this post).
  • On Saturday, May 20th I will highlight the posts and on May 21st I will announce prize winners.

Whatโ€™s in it for participants?

Well, in addition to reaping the benefits of physical activity, your blog will be entered into a drawing with a chance to win an item from artist entrepreneur Sammi Lee’s Mintaka Collection (original prints, art, and clothing). There will be two drawings: May 17th (posted Mon-Wed) and May 20th (posted Thurs-Sat). If your blog is drawn, you will be sent a gift card code via email. The next fun step will be to peruse Sammi Leeโ€™s site at your leisure. Youโ€™re all winners to me!

Thatโ€™s it! Painless play with the chance to win a cool artistic prize!

Photo note: We’d rather see you in action, but your photo can highlight your chosen activity while maintaining your anonymity if you choose. For example, if basketball is your thing, take a photo of the court, or if you enjoy yoga, take a photo of your mat. Be creative! Be honest tooโ€ฆ donโ€™t only take a photo of the ball. ๐Ÿ™„ Bounce the ball! Experiencing the action will elevate your heartrate and your writing. ๐Ÿ˜

Blog Challenge Inspiration (a few things):

I’ve been thinking a lot about how important strength is to me, at this stage of life. Mental as well as physical, of course. There was a time when I wanted to trade my strong thighs for skinny thighs. Legs like bean poles would have easily fit into 501 Jeans and they would not have taken up any space or attracted any attention, like my thighs did. Seems a ridiculous wish now, but adolescents arenโ€™t known for making sound decisions. Puberty brought many delightful things, including a burst of womanly curves that drew unwanted attention. My body has changed and so has my thinking: I now value curves and strength over string beans.

The other event that brought this idea to fruition was an exchange with fellow blogger, trE at ‘A Cornered Gurl’ about roller skating. That dialogue motivated me to purchase a pair of skates. Thanks, trE!๐Ÿ›ผ๐Ÿ˜

Those merged thoughts got me thinking about the sedentary nature of computer work, which led me to this challenge, which led me to a collaborative conversation with my daughter, active artist Sammi Lee, who is happy to be included in this moving challenge. All of this thinking also led me to an empowered poem that I will share next week.

Another blogger shoutout; this one to fitness trainer Belladonna at ‘Belladonna’s Flashlight‘ whose posts on fitness and mindset further fueled my courage to offer this challenge. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

 Additional notes:

  • Physical activity looks different for everyone, depending on abilities and/or disabilities. All levels are encouraged to participate. This is not a fitness competition! This is a feel good have fun challenge, sponsored by two women (me and Sammi) who wish to promote healthy living.
  • Invite others to join you. Include your kids or neighbors. They will thank you. Someday.
  • Pets are welcome too! They will definitely thank you!
  • Visit other โ€˜playfulโ€™ blog posts that week and see what others are up to. ๐Ÿ‘
  • Feel free to share this post with other bloggers who might enjoy the challenge.
  • And of course, always consult a physician before starting any new physical activity.๐Ÿ‘จ๐Ÿปโ€โš•๏ธ
  • Shipping note: Mintaka does ship overseas, however, if prize winners encounter any issues with a specific location, an alternate prize will be substituted.

Thank you for visiting. I look forward to seeing and reading your moving posts! Be well. ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป Michele

P.S. Congratulations to all the poets who have written their hearts out during this National Poetry Month! One more day!

      1. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The writing is complementary to the activity, which is the heart of the matter, literally. A pumping heart! ๐Ÿ’“ I know you’ll bring support either way, so thank you in advance.

      1. You don’t have to share a picture of yourself, if that’s unclear. Just something related to an active activity. I understand though! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป The important thing is to enjoy your life!

  1. Wow, thanks. So much, thanks. I read thoroughly. But my brainโ€™s jello right now as I did some heavy lifting (of words) this month ๐Ÿ˜‰ I want to do this. Will return later to reread. Thanks for doing this.
Walk is my form of exercise. Donโ€™t know how but just maybe this will work. Thanks. Talk more later and thanks a bunch for the support this month. Stay sweet, Michele Lee. Blessings

    1. Thank you, Selma! I completely understand. I think most of us can relate, although not all of us took it to your extraordinary level, that is most certain! Rest, relax, recharge. The challenge is a few weeks out, should you choose to participate, and walking is fantastic! My preferred way to start the day. After mediation, of course. ๐Ÿ˜Š I am grateful for you affirming kindness. ๐Ÿ’—

  7. To begin with, this is a fabulous stimulus to all of us. I decided not to comment, though, until I gave the challenge a try. Mission accomplished.

This was really fun. Fun is a worthwhile contribution to the human condition. I am singing to the choir, of course; who else would write about a candy apple red Chevy? Truck! Who even remembers what that magnificent point on the color spectrum looks likeโ€”especially when you see it ripping down the highway? Guided by a spunky strawberry blonde who can breath fire if needed. Yes!

Keep us on our t0es, Michele!

Yep, they are energy mavens for sure. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

I have to say, although I am late to the party, this is definitely an exercise to get ya out of that sedentary slump we can sometimes fall into. Thanks so much for this challenge ladybug! ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿผ๐ŸŒบ๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿป๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ˜Ž
